Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Launched Priced at $1,380

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip cover

Besides launching the Galaxy S20 series at the Unpacked event, Samsung also launched the Galaxy Z Flip. The new foldable device from Samsung comes with a different design from the Galaxy Fold. It has a horizontal fold much like the Motorola Razr. However, unlike Motorola’s offering, the Galaxy Z Flip contains certain flagship specifications. Once unfolded, you will have access to a 6.7 inch OLED screen which can be folded down to take up a small footprint.

Samsung has done a terrible job this time trying to keep things a secret. The company even revealed the Galaxy Z Flip a few days ago in an ad for the Oscars 2021. As a result, we knew almost everything about the S20 range as well as the Galaxy Z Flip for a few weeks. The latest foldable from Samsung has abandoned an external screen for a small 1.1-inch OLED cover screen. This small screen will allow you to see the notifications. However, you cannot read any notification messages. In addition, it can be used as a viewfinder if you choose to click on the selfies via the rear camera. Thanks to the foldable screen, you can easily pocket the phone or throw it in a handbag without having to worry about space.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip specifications

As we mentioned above, the Z Flip contains some flagship specs, albeit those from the previous year. However, these are the specifications of the foldable device.

  • 6.7 inch FHD + Dynamic AMOLED foldable display.
  • 1.1 inch Super AMOLED screen (cover screen).
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC.
  • 8 GB RAM + 256 GB internal storage.
  • Two rear cameras: 12MP ultra wide camera + 12MP wide angle camera.
  • 10MP front camera, f / 2.4 with a field of view of 80˚.
  • 3300mAh battery.

Confronting the Galaxy Z Flip with its closest competitor, the Motorola Razr, makes it easy to win the Z Flip. What is even more important is that the Galaxy Z Flip comes with an ultra-thin glass. Samsung’s UTG or Ultra Thin Glass is said to last up to 200,000 times. This is a big step forward compared to the plastic screens found on all other foldable devices currently available.

The device has a slightly larger aspect ratio 21.9: 9 than usual. This can cause black bars to appear when certain content is consumed. However, the high aspect ratio will be an advantage for those who use applications such as Instagram or who read a lot on their device.

Samsung has also improved the hinge mechanism of the Galaxy Z Flip. With the addition of small fibers, the company says it will help prevent debris and pocket fluff from entering the hinge. However, we may have to wait for more people to get their hands on the device to see if the claim for durability is true.

Price and availability

The Galaxy Z Flip will be available for $ 1,380 in the United States and to our surprise, there will be no delay between the availability of the Galaxy Z Flip and the S20 series. Interested buyers will be available to get their hands on the Galaxy Z Flip from February 14 through the Samsung official website or in select stores. The device will be available in three different color variants – Mirror Purple, Mirror Black and Mirror Gold. However, the color variants vary depending on the region.

Thom Browne Edition Z Flip

The company also launched the Thom Browne Edition Galaxy Z Flip. Of course, it looks chic and beautiful. Needless to say, you could end up paying more than two thousand dollars to buy the Thom Browne Edition Galaxy Z Flip. However, what do you think of the Galaxy Z Flip?
