What Are Google Duo Group Invite Links and How to Use Them

The functionality seems similar to Zoom invitations and in particular to recently introduced message rooms. The Google Duo app generates a link when you create a group to be shared with other people. Others can join even at mid-call if they are part of the group.

Let’s find out about Duo group invitations and how to use them.

What are the links of the Google Duo group

Until now, users had to find and select users from their contact list to add them to a Duo group. Now the same has been replaced by links, even if the traditional capacity still exists.

You will receive a unique link for your group that you must share with the other people you want to join. You can share the link using any other application such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Other users must tap the link from where they can accept or reject the group invitation. Once they are part of the same group, any member can initiate the group call.

How to Find Duo Group Links

There are two ways to create and find a group link in Duo.

Method 1: Send an invitation before starting a call

In the first method, the Duo application will show you the group invitation link when you create a group and add at least one member.

So launch the Duo application on your phone and click the Create group button at the bottom. Add at least one member to the group.

The app will take you to the group call screen. Here you will find the group invitation. Copy the invitation link using the button next to it or tap the share icon and send it to your friends via any application. It is only when a member presses the Start button that the Duo application creates a call and informs the others.

When you add other people to a group before making an actual call, the application notifies them that you have added them to a Duo group.

Method 2: Send the invitation at mid-call

If you are already in a group call, any member of the group can also invite more people (up to 12) during the call. To find the invitation link, tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of the call screen and tap the Share icon. Send the link to your friends.

Note: If the three-dot icon is missing, update your Duo app or try fixes to prevent Duo from working properly.

Who can join the Duo group using links

Anyone with a Duo account can join the group. A Duo account and an app are required.

What Happens When You Receive a Duo Group Invitation

When a Duo user clicks on the invitation link, the Duo application opens on their phone. If your phone does not have the Duo app, the interface will take you to the Play Store (Android) and the App Store (iOS) to download the app.

Then you will see other group members and the option to join or decline the group invitation. Press the Join button to access the current call.

If there is no video call in progress at the moment, the application interface will take you to the group’s home screen. Press the Start button to create a group video call.

Can other members share group links

Yes. As mentioned above, any member of the group can invite more people using the link. So be careful with whom you share your group link.

And if the creator ends the group call

If a group creator or another member ends the group call, the call does not end for everyone. It is only when everyone leaves the group call that it is finished. Until then, others can still join the group call. All group members will see the message “Join Live Call” on the group icon.

Where can you create and join group invitations

Since the Duo group calling feature is not currently available on the web, you can only create and join group links from mobile apps – Android and iOS. If you have a Chromebook, the links will also work because it uses the Duo Android app.

Competition is strong

Google Duo continuously adds cool features to compete with other video calling apps like Facebook Messenger, Zoom, WhatsApp, etc.

But it would not be fair to compare Duo with Zoom because the first is more of a personal application. Google offers the Meet app for video conferencing for your work or school lessons. It is also available in Gmail for faster access. Before leaving, find out how Duo differs from Meet and if you switch to it.

While you compare Duo with other calling apps, check its comparison with WhatsApp video calls from the following link.
